It’s not a comet heading our way, it’s a tunnel boring machine set to dig beneath us! This is the motto of a Brussels-based initiative offering a critical perspective on the new subway tunnel planned for construction in Brussels.
"Don't Look Up" is an incredible movie highlighting human obliviousness, blinded by a profit-driven society, endless political debates, and the self-assurance of "success". In this movie, a meteor poses a serious threat to humanity, but no one takes it seriously. "Don't Look Down" is a series of videos discussing how society ignorantly approaches a public transport project that could deplete the public budget and severely disrupt local urban dynamics, while neglecting the priorities of the public transport network. Two years after this project was initiated, we can observe the predicted critical outcomes. For example: - Today, citizens agree that constructing a subway tunnel in the 2020s is an outdated public transport strategy - The initial budget has already been refinanced, and the project is nowhere near completion - The tunnel route has not been properly traced, and entire buildings may need to be demolished to excavate the tunnel more feasibly - The projected deadline has already been extended . . .
We highly recommend watching all the videos. They are super engaging and seem like they’re sent from the future.
