CONTRACT AGAINST GENTRIFICATION?

We have produced numerous videos demonstrating how to identify various forms of gentrification. As you might already know, there are countless situations where gentrification can arise without citizens noticing. However, after posting videos about gentrification, we often receive the following feedback:

- That's great, but can you offer some solutions?

Although we firmly believe that the path to solutions lies in thoroughly understanding how to identify the problem, we also agree that discussing proposals for solutions can positively impact different types of urban issues, such as gentrification, which often seem inevitable.

Indeed, there are many ideas for combating gentrification, and the critique is justified:
- We don't present these ideas.
- As a society, we don't give them a chance.
However, we must acknowledge that when discussing urban issues, instead of solutions, we should focus on strategies, tools, and instruments that will help us achieve those solutions. Why?
Simply because when dealing with complex issues, we can't view solutions as products; we must see them as results of collective actions and social contracts.
Speaking of social contracts, an interesting idea for combating gentrification is the urban strategy in Brussels called "Neighborhood Contract."(nl:wijkcontract / fr:contract quartier)This strategy may have some flaws, but it provides a solid foundation for fostering genuine urbanism resistant to gentrification. In our next YouTube video, we will delve deeper into this subject, but for now, we would like to summarize this strategy in simple terms. In certain city areas, we should allow for the relaxation of strict building regulations and create independent zones aimed at achieving higher collective values that benefit communities.
More about this on our YouTube channel STRIPPING ARCHITECTURE and soon we will share the link here.
